Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, was born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both attorneys. At the age five she moved to Oxfordshire where she attended the Dragon School. At the age of six, Emma knew that she wanted to be an actress and for several years, she trained at the Oxford Branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts a part-time theater school, where she learned the art of acting and dancing. From the age of 10 the actress took part in as the lead in a number of Stagecoach productions as well as school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000), the movie version to J.K. Rowlings bestselling novel was first cast for the first time at the beginning of 1999. Emma was discovered by casting agents through Emma's Oxford theatre instructor. After eight consecutive auditions, producer David Heyman told Emma and co-applicants Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint that they had been selected to play the three main characters Hermione Granger Harry Potter and Ron Weasley. The film's release Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001) was Emma's debut on the screen in cinema. The most successful film of 2001, the film set records in its first day opening and opening weekend takings. The film received praise from reviewers, and so were the performances of its three new stars. The Daily Telegraph, a widely read British newspaper, was awed by her for her performance. Then Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her performance in the film, winning an award called the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in a feature Film.
